Fungus Maximus

This is a giant piece of fungus that my mom found in our backyard. It's probably the second biggest fungus that I've ever seen. I couldn't believe how big it was when I first saw it. I thought it was made of plastic. There's also a small fungus growing behind the stump it is on. The dog almost ate it.

This is my hand next to the giant fungus. I named it "FUNGUS MAXIMUS."

Illustration Friday - Polar

This week's Illustration Friday was "polar." I couldn't narrow it down to just one idea this week, so I decided to do two. The first one is called "Polar Nightmare." It is a penguin gone bad. He has viciously sharp teeth, and unusually sharp claws. When I did the background for this I tried to use the same technique that my mom did when she did a polar bear some time back. At the top I was trying to do the Northern Lights or the Aurora Borealus. It's on ebay now.

The second one is a polar "Yetti". I got this idea while reading my Mythical Monsters book. I modeled mine more after Bigfoot than a Yetti. They look good together and I used the same technique as I did with the penguin. It's also on ebay.

Both are ACEO size (2.5x3.5 inches) done with watercolor and pen and ink.

Tadpole and Moor on Spring Break

I got this fish as an Easter present from my Grandma. My mom got me this tadpole for our pond. This fish is a Black Moor, otherwise known as a "Bug Eye Fish." His name is Finkelstein, named after the mad scientist, Dr. Finkelstein in the Nightmare Before Christmas. The tadpole is an African Bullfrog and should grow to the size of a large hand. The fish loves the tadpole and likes to sleep next to him. He also follows him everywhere. The tadpole would be fun to watch turn into a frog, but we think he'll have a better chance out in the pond.

Illustration Friday - fortune

For this Illustration Friday I did "The Tiki of Good Fortune." As you can see he's sitting high and mighty on his giant pile of jewels and gold. I first got this idea when I saw the tikis on the Trader Joe's bag. I got the idea for the top plate on the head from "Pele The Volcanoe Goddess" at Disneyland's Enchanted Tiki Room.

It's an ACEO (size 2.5x3.5 inches)

Illustration Friday - Green

I did this Illustration Friday entry in my journal for a change. It is a little dome monster. I had a lot of ideas for "green", but this is the only one I wanted to do. It is called "Green Dome Creature". It was originally my friend, Ben's idea and he's been asking me for 2 weeks now to either put it on my blog or make an ACEO out of it. I still have to make an ACEO. I changed it a lot t make i my own. It is pen and ink and colored pencil. This is the first time I tried shading with colored pencil. I used my mom's Prismacolor pencils and they work really good.

Science - Exploding Volcano

This is a science project that I recently did. First, I made a mixture of plaster of paris, rock, sand, and water. I then covered the plastic volcano mold with the mix. It dried very quickly. Then I made the mixture for the "lava." The mixture was food coloring, vinegar, and liquid soap. I put some baking soda into the volcano at the top. I put the "lava" mixture in a bottle, then squeezed it through the tube until it came out of the top. When the mixture hit the baking soda, it "exploded."

The project was a success and I want to do it again.
